Nilpena Ediacara Tour- Fossil Tour

Discover a new perspective through which to view the world. 555 million years ago the Flinders Ranges were a shallow tropical sea closer to the equator. With photosynthesis and rise of oxygen levels, animal life exploded.

Experience the earliest evidence of complex, multicellular life on earth, with Nilpena Station pastoralist Ross Fargher, who discovered the Nilpena fossils in 1986.

Sydney to Tibooburra

The crew welcome you to our private lounge at Bankstown Airport. We begin our Flinders Ranges air safari as we board our private plane and head northwest. Take in the views from a completely different perspective. The Cessna Grand Caravan’s high wings and oversized windows are perfect for “flight seeing”.

Our first destination is the Outback town of Louth, where we enjoy lunch at the local pub perched on the banks of the mighty Darling River. Back in the air we fly to a historical gold mining post, Tibooburra, the gateway to Channel Country.

Tibooburra to Arkaroola

A day of discovery awaits as we set off into channel country flying over vast desert and the Outback of Australia as we make our way to The Arkaroola Wildlife Sanctuary.

Upon landing, experience the beauty of Arkaroola as we travel by 4WD through ancient parts of the wild and rugged Flinders Ranges. By sunset we arrive at a spectacular lookout point and witness Arkaroola and the Northern Flinders Ranges awash in ever-changing hues of light at one of the best sunset locations in South Australia. Our local guides will provide commentary and insights into this unique area while watching one of nature’s greatest light shows, accompanied by South Australian wine, beer and canapes.

Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary to Prairie Hotel

Another morning of adventure as we jump back into the 4WD to explore more of the magical landscape of Arkaroola.
The Ridgetop Tour is an unforgettable experience, showcasing timeless terrain and the natural beauty of Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary.
Travelling in a specially constructed open-top 4WD, passengers are taken on a guided tour of some of the most spectacular rugged country on earth. Experienced
tour guides share their knowledge of Arkaroola’s 1600-million-year geological history as they navigate the steep slopes and hair raising ascents of the famous
Ridgetop Track.

After lunch we are back in the air flying above the northern end of the Flinders ranges and make our way west to leigh creek before tracking south and flying over the spectacular Wilpena Pound to gain appreciation of this landscape.

Our next stop is; Blinman we are welcomed by warm hospitality at the Prairie Hotel and Outback Lodge.

Enjoy the elegant country style, memorable dining & house brewed beers of this Outback oasis in the Flinders Ranges.

Prairie Hotel to Broken Hill to Sydney

After breakfast we discover a a new perspective through which to view the world on the guided Nilpena Ediacara Fossil Tour.

555 million years ago the Flinders Ranges were a shallow tropical sea closer to the equator. These are the most intact and significant Ediacara fossil beds in the world, they are crucial to understanding the evolution of animal life on earth.

We farewell the Flinders Ranges and head to the mining town of Broken Hill.
Did you know Broken Hill is Australia’s first heritage-listed city? Take a stroll down Argent Street to see the historical buildings and art galleries before we visit the interactive Royal Flying Doctor Experience and explore first-hand the resilience, resourcefulness and ingenuity of the Flying Doctor, still a much-needed resource in the Outback.

Sit back, relax and reflect on your journey as Foxtrot Tango Tango takes you home to Sydney.
