day 1

Sydney to Broken Hill

The crew welcome you to our lounge at Bankstown Airport. We begin our journey as we board our private plane and head west. Take in the views from a completely different perspective. The Cessna Grand Caravan’s high wings and oversized windows are perfect for “flight seeing”.

We land in the Outback town of Tilpa for a pub lunch. Established in 1894 to service the river boat trade, the pub is a classic character-filled Outback hotel made of corrugated iron and timber on the banks of the Darling River.

Back in the air, take in Outback vistas as we head to the Silver City of Broken Hill.

Accommodation: Royal Exchange Hotel, Broken Hill

Broken Hill To Parachilna

This morning enjoy a visit to the interactive Royal Flying Doctors Museum which displays how this important organisation provides a vital air service to remote Outback towns and communities.

We board Foxtrot Tango Tango and continue our journey west bound and track across the border into South Australia, flying over the beautiful Lake Frome.

Fourth generation Flinders Ranges pastoralist and cattleman Ross Fargher and wife Jane bought their ‘local’, The Prairie Hotel, in 1991. They have created an unexpected oasis and a must visit destination in remote Parachilna, in the rugged Flinders Ranges.

Enjoy the morning witnessing the rugged Flinders Ranges from above as we fly towards the famous landmark of Wilpena Pound, a major natural amphitheatre of mountains. We will lunch at the historic sandstone Marree Hotel.

In the afternoon we fly over Lake Eyre South and the mysterious Marree Man. Who is responsible for this extraordinary 2.7km drawing of an indigenous hunter in the Outback?

This evening we enjoy true Outback hospitality with drinks and dinner at the authentic bush pub, The William Creek Hotel. This pub, on the famous Oodnadatta Track, is loved by travellers from all around the world, with a bar decorated by hundreds of notes, memorabilia and mementos.

We track over Lake Eyre North and Goyder Lagoon which is located at the southern extent of the Diamantina River Wetland System before arriving in the historic town of Birdsville. Upon landing, our plane will taxi us right up to the front door of the famous Birdsville Hotel! Where else in the world can you do this?

Back in the aircraft, we fly over the Strzelecki Desert as we head to our final night’s destination in Corner Country, the remote Outback post of Tibooburra. Enjoy a beer from the veranda at the Two Storey sandstone Tibooburra Hotel.
