The Underground World of Coober Pedy

Venture into the underground world of Coober Pedy - exploring the rugged town's opal mines, churches, art galleries and dugouts.

Experience sleeping underground in the opal mining capital of the world - Coober Pedy. More than half the population of this quirky remote town live below ground where the average temperature remains at a pleasant 23-25 C year round. It's like travelling to another planet with its moon-like landscape which you may recognise from the Mad Max movie which was filmed here.

Longreach

Spend two days in this region of Queensland which is steeped in Outback history and ancient natural wonders.

Visit the Qantas Founders Museum and the legendary Stockman's Hall of Fame. Unwind on the tranquil cruise of the Thomson River as you watch the sun turn golden surrounded by the sounds of the abundant wildlife.

Experience Life on an Outback Sheep Station

Enjoy the company of your generous hosts, The Murray Family, as they share their 320,000 acre home with you.

Immerse yourself in the peaceful landscape, appreciating an Outback sunset with drinks, before relaxing by a camp fire with a home cooked dinner. Trilby Station has 10km of walking tracks along the banks of The Darling River, a state of the art modern shearing shed and aviation hanger for the working machines of the bush. There will be plenty of opportunity to chat to your hosts about their unique lifestyle.

Sydney to Longreach

Be welcomed by our crew at Bankstown  Airport ( Sydney ) before departing in our private aircraft for this unforgettable Outback adventure. Enjoy morning tea in the agricultural centre of Moree and lunch in the Queensland Outback town of Charleville before arriving at our destination, the pioneering town of Longreach. Take in the stunning Outback views from your deluxe tent at the Mitchell Grass Retreat.
There will be endless photo opportunities as we take a gentle sunset cruise along the Thomson River, before docking to enjoy a table service dinner under the stars, featuring a camp oven themed modern cuisine. Be entertained by musicians and bush poetry – a night to remember.

Longreach

Enjoy an Outback sunrise on the surrounding Mitchell Grass Plains. This morning we will be surrounded by aviation history as we visit the Qantas Founders Museum. An afternoon of discovery awaits at the legendary Stockman’s Hall of Fame, which showcases the history and culture of rural Australia.

Longreach to Birdsville

Our private aircraft flies south west to the renowned Outback town of Birdsville. On arrival, we will visit the iconic Birdsville Hotel, one of the only places in the world where our plane takes us right to the door of the pub. Sunset will be taken in over ‘Big Red’ the tallest sand dune in the Simpson desert, with canapés and drinks served.

Birdsville to Coober Pedy

We keep flying further south today, deep into central South Australia, to the world’s opal capital, the quirky town of Coober Pedy. Explore a working opal mine and visit underground museums, churches and dugouts (homes). Enjoy the once in a lifetime experience of staying in an underground motel.

Coober Pedy to William Creek

A short hop today, as far as distance goes, but we see some remarkable scenery as we fly over The Painted Hills of Anna Creek Station. This area is inaccessible by road so the only way to see this hidden icon is by air. Our night will be spent at The William Creek Hotel, which comes alive in the winter months. Enjoy drinks and dinner with the locals and fellow travellers exploring the great Australian Outback.

William Creek to Trilby Station

The next leg of our tour finds us at Shindy’s Inn, Louth, indulging in a drink overlooking The Darling River, before heading to Trilby Station – a 320,000 acre working sheep property. We will be hosted by the owners of Trilby, Liz and Gary Murray, gaining insight into life on a remote sheep station. This overnight stop focuses on offering the true Australian Outback station experience. Immerse yourself in the landscape, appreciating a bush sunset with drinks before relaxing by a camp fire enjoying a home cooked dinner, under a star-lit sky.

Trilby Station to Sydney

Our last day in the Outback where those who wish to immerse themselves in nature and the peaceful surroundings can take advantage of Trilby’s 10kms of walking tracks along the banks of The Darling River. Guests will have an opportunity to ask questions about station life as Liz takes us on a walking tour encompassing the state of the art shearing shed and aircraft hanger. Next stop is the neighbouring historical Dunlop Station where we will sample a shearers’ traditional morning tea, Smoko, before touring the homestead and discovering the history of the area. Dunlop was the first sheep station in the world to use mechanical shears. We will enjoy our farewell lunch at Shindy’s Inn overlooking the Darling as our Outback adventure comes to a close before boarding our plane for the final flight back to Sydney.
