Explore the beautiful Freycinet National Park

Enjoy exclusive access on board the Schouten Passage II, cruising the breathtaking Wine Glass Bay. The adults only lounge with banquette style seating for up to 26 passengers provides an intimate experience, with direct access to the Captains bridge and private viewing deck.

Strahan

Cruise the Gordon River

Enjoy cruising on the Gordon River in UNESCO World Heritage Wilderness, hear the sounds of the rainforest, see a working fish farm and enjoy guided tours at Heritage Landing and Sarah Island.

day 1

Sydney to Launceston

Our Tasmanian air safari begins in Sydney (Bankstown Aerodrome). We board our private aircraft and set course towards the south to the Apple Isle. We make a quick stop at Latrobe Valley for lunch and to refuel our aircraft before flying across the Tasman Sea and Flinders Island into Launceston.

Launceston food and wine to Freycinet National Park

Explore the Tamar Valley region with a private wine tour, visiting boutique vineyards and enjoying a gourmet lunch featuring local produce. Later in the afternoon we make our way back to the airport for a short flight across to Friendly Beaches airfield, located in Freycinet National Park. We spend the evening relaxing at our accommodation, the luxurious Freycinet Lodge, with dinner overlooking the stunning bay. Soak in the magnificent views and let the fresh local produce tantalise your taste buds.

Freycinet National Park to Hobart

Catch the sunrise over the Tasman sea as we begin our day exploring the surrounding waters of the National Park. Today we cruise across the coastline of Freycinet National Park from Coles Bay to Wineglass Bay aboard the upper deck of the Tasmania built Schouten Passage II. Discover a coast dotted with sparkling white sand beaches, including Cooks and Bryans beaches, only accessible by water or a full day bushwalk. In the afternoon we board our private aircraft for a short flight across to Hobart.

Hobart day tour

We spend the day exploring the history and natural beauty of the region. Our morning begins amongst nature with a 3 hour wilderness cruise, visiting the highest vertical sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere at Cape Pillar, exploring sea caves and seeing wildlife along the magnificent coastline. Back on shore we spend the afternoon at the Port Arthur Historic site.

Hobart and Strahan

This morning is yours to enjoy so you may wish to stroll along the harbour foreshore at your doorstep and visit Mawson’s Hut.
This afternoon we take a short scenic flight across to the beautiful harbourside village of Strahan.

Strahan to King Island

Relax during a day of serenity amongst nature as we cruise the magnificent Gordon River in the heart of the UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Savour Tassie gourmet delicacies and premium wines over this six hour cruise from the luxurious Premier Upper Deck of the impressive Spirit of the Wild vessel. With floor to ceiling windows we can enjoy the stunning surrounds. At Heritage Landing we have the opportunity to wander the elevated boardwalks that thread their way between the magnificent rainforest species and we can explore the ruins at the fascinating penal colony of Sarah Island.

From water to air, back in the Cessna Caravan we make our way towards King Island in the afternoon. This evening we dine at the acclaimed Wild Harvest Restaurant, overlooking Bass Strait, an ocean to plate experience not to be missed.

King Island to Flinders Island

This morning we depart King Island for a coastal scenic flight to the spectacularly rugged Flinders Island. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the fresh air at Trousers Point Beach followed by an afternoon exploring the island with our local guide. Visit the Furneaux Museum and Wybalenna as we journey through the farmland of the east coast to Furneaux Lookout, then to Vinegar Hill for a view across the islands of Franklin Sound and around Lady Barron.
We check into our accommodation – Flinders Island Retreat on the doorstep of the National Park with the beach just a stroll away.

Tour of Flinders Island

Enjoy a home cooked breakfast before our private guide collects us for another day of exploration.
This evening we enjoy the hospitality of our host, Wendy, at The Retreat.

Flinders Island to Sydney

This morning we enjoy a farewell breakfast at Cooma House before departing for the airport for our journey back to Sydney. Marvel at the spectacular vistas as we fly back across Bass Strait and over eastern Victoria. Enjoy lunch by the Murray River at the River Deck Cafe at the border town of Albury. Relax and reflect on your journey as we fly you on this final leg home to Sydney. We hope to welcome you on another Outback by Air safari soon.

All ground and air transport while on tour is included.

Our tours are conducted in our Cessna Grand Caravan 208B that seats up to 13 people including 2 crew. Our aircraft offers uninterrupted aerial views of the landscape and is able to land into remote airstrips bringing you closer to the Outback action.

When we are not flying, our ground transport is arranged by local tour guides who provide their local expertise when showing us the regions with visit.

There are some locations where a small amount of walking is required – please advise the Outback By Air crew if you have any mobility issues with walking short distances.

 

general

Accommodation: Outback By Air book the best available accommodation at each location, bearing in mind that some remote towns have limited options. Guests are accommodated in either twin share rooms or single rooms  and rooms have a private ensuite, unless stated otherwise.

Drinks: Guests are responsible for their own drinks during the tour. Outback By Air will provide selected  wines with dinner each night.

Throughout this Outback By Air tour, guests will be accompanied by two experienced pilots who are also your tour coordinators.
